NO strangers to the south coast cockney duo Chas and Dave return on Friday.

They will be performing all their classic hits at Bournemouth's Pavilion Theatre next including Aint no Pleasing You and Rabbit, and some new ones from their latest album That's What Happens.

Chas Hodges told the Daily Echo: “Unlike a lot of bands we enjoy gigging so we spread our dates out over the year rather than try and get them over and done with crammed into three months.

“You watch some bands and you can see they are just doing it for the money: I don’t need to do it for the money – I love it!”

The show comes in the wake of their first new studio album in 27 years.

The critically-acclaimed That’s What Happens was recorded in Studio 2, Abbey Road with Grammy-winning bluesman Joe Henry on production duties.

It's release saw Chas and Dave not only return to the UK album charts but also return to their roots with a collection of early R&B, skiffle and rock ’n’ roll classics alongside new takes on songs of their own.

The album also featured a crack team of musicians and special guests including guitarists Albert Lee and Martin Taylor, Buddy Holly and The Crickets’ drummer J. I Allison, and Jools Holland and Hugh Laurie on keys.

Chas added: “I’ve got a lot of good memories of recording at Abbey Road and a lot of the big studios have gone that allow you to get a proper drum sound.

“It’s only because of The Beatles that Abbey Road remains, otherwise it would have been a block of flats or a car park by now!”

The pavilion audience can expect a few songs from the album and all the Chas and Dave classics.

Chas and Dave have a long musical pedigree that stretches back to the dawn of British rock and roll, but they first arrived on the music scene as a duo in the 1970s.

With hits such as Gertcha, Rabbit, The Sideboard Song, Margate and Ain’t No Pleasing You, they created a sound that was uniquely British and rockin’ to boot.

And it’s those songs that have ensured that the boys have continued to tour for over five decades to audiences across the world, enchanted by their down-to-earth charm and great song-writing.
