A SAMUEL Beckett classic will come to a Hampshire venue on September 15.

The famed playwright’s Waiting for Godot will be at The Lights in Andover as part of a nationwide tour.

It will be performed by theatre touring company, London Classic Theatre, who this year are celebrating 15 years of staging classic and modern classic plays to audiences across the UK.

Beckett’s unique, timeless play moves seamlessly between comedy and drama and is seen as a groundbreaking commentary on the meaning of both life and death.

The play begins on a country road, at dusk, by a tree.

An old man named Estragon, sits down to remove his boot and is joined by an old friend and they begin to reminisce about their old memories they shared.

They have apparently known each other for years.

Once perhaps respectable, they are now homeless, debilitated, and often suicidal. They wonder out loud why they did not kill themselves years ago; they consider the possibility of doing it today.

They are waiting for someone they call “Godot”.

While they wait, they share conversation, food, and memories.

Promoters say that after spending two hours in their company audiences will be captivated, moved and maybe even changed.

The play starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £16, with concessions and school bookings at £14 per person.
