ROMSEY thespians have produced another show-stopper at the world-famous Minack open-air theatre on the south Cornish coast.

Cast from Romsey Amateur Operatic Drama Society (Raods) have been performing the musical version of Jack the Ripper at the much loved outdoor theatre in Portcurno - four miles from Land's End.

And the Raods team received a good review in Penzance area's local paper -The Cornishman.

Reviewer Jenni Barlow said:"They gave the catchy songs their boisterous best and Kerry Butcher playing the Ripper's final victim was outstanding, with excellent performances by David Tatnell as he music hall chairman, and Glenda Thomas, Helen Newton, Trish Quinlan and Nancy and Nick Longland."

Jenni also praised Steven Lilly whom she described as singing like "a canary" in his yellow waistcoat.

Raods Jack the Ripper musical is directed by Bob Blake and Neil Thorpe and produced by Heather Whitham.

Former Raods chairman Ken Strott who now lives in Yorkshire also watched the show.

Ken said: "I went to support Raods who were performing the musical Jack the Ripper.

I am proud to report that it was an absolutely wonderful show, the energetic cast singing and moving with humour and gusto. The local paper "The Cornishman" described the leading lady (Kerry Butcher) as "outstanding".

Luckily Romsey theatregoers will be able to see repeat performances of the show either at Romsey Show or at The Plaza Theatre."

This was Raods have performed at Minack several times and the first was in 2009.

Director of the Minack Theatre Trust, Zoë Curnow, said: "They tackled the music hall version of ‘Jack the Ripper’ with great professionalism and enthusiasm. From stunning costumes, to excellent ensemble performances they even coped well with all that the Cornish weather could throw at them."
