IT is the second in the 2016 – 17 Season of recorded satellite broadcasts to be screened from the Australian Ballet, to the big screen at the Regent in Christchurch.

Cinderella will be screened on Wednesday 23 November at 7pm.

Alexei Ratmansky’s Cinderella is a witty, vibrant, glamorous and romantic production that promises to sweep its audience off their feet.

The traditional tale sees Cinderella set to work in order to support her evil stepmother and her two pompous and lazy sisters. She watches as they prepare to attend a magnificent ball being held by the Prince of the realm, knowing that they will not allow her to attend, leaving her behind instead to do more skivvying on their behalf.

When they leave, she imagines herself dancing at the ball in a beautiful gown, wishing beyond hope that she could attend. Then Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother takes pity on her and transforms her rags into a splendid gown before transporting her to the ball. However, she warns Cinderella that the magic spell will end at midnight and that she must leave before then at all costs.

At the ball, Cinderella meets the Prince and it is love at first sight - but as the clock strikes midnight, she runs from the ballroom leaving her slipper behind. Travelling the land, the Prince searches for his lost true love and the moment that Cinderella’s foot fits the slipper they live happily ever after.

This production was hailed as “effervescent and as much fun as festive champagne” [Daily Telegraph] and “exquisite from start to finish” [Crikey].
