THE Cuban Brothers are set to bring their celebration of cheese with a captial 'ch' to Common People tomorrow ( Sunday).

And it's their 20th anniversary too so they are in the mood to party.

An unstoppable, infectious force of nature, The Cuban Brothers’ unrivalled funk soul review blends sexy, soulful music with jaw-dropping b-boy action and riotous comedy. From humble beginnings Miguel Mantovani, Archerio Mantovani, Kengo San and Domenico have built Los Hermanos Cubanos - The Cuban Brothers - into a legendary outfit that continuously sells out shows across the globe.

Mike Keat (Miguel) started The Cuban Brothers after in the mid to late 90s. His love of b-boying, Latin music and character comedy inspired him to create an irreverent music-driven show to help him showcase his burgeoning talents as a singer, MC and dancer. After enrolling Archie ‘Archerio’ Easton (a former champion b-boy and ex-Prodigy dancer), Kengo ‘Kengo San’ Oshima (a dance student and earnest wrong-man) and most recently Domenico AKA Juan Erection, the four-piece has blurred historic fact and hilarious fiction with the three elements of entertainment – music, comedy and dancing – journeying on an endless foray into filthy fun and funky action.

Mike told the Echo: "I was a DJ for a long time and grew up in New Zealand before returning to the UK at the age of 18. But I soon became disillusioned with the place and went to live in Spain.

“The character of Miguel came from an old guy who worked in a hotel in Palma, Majorca, where I lived for a time. He was in his 50s and had a big moustache and was called Pedro or Miguel or something and one of his jobs as the hotel motivator was to look after the kids.

“He would be teaching them petanque or swimming and in the evening he would do sub standard magic shows and run the disco as well – you would see him sprinting from one to the other. He really was something else and so awful he was fantastic. I loved him and there was something nice about him- if a bit misguided.

“So I based the character of Miguel, a guy who fancies himself, and is a bit substandard, on him. The idea is he's been in the porn industry and has a bit of a dodgy past - he's a guy past his best!"

He added: “At the time I started, dance music was on the rise but I wanted to create something that was more tangible from the era when I first started going out, the 1980s and ’90s. I wanted people to stop taking it all so seriously and start having fun again."

Mike says they love playing to festival crowds and summing up their act says:"We are the anti show gazing vibe- we like to engage with people. We try to interact as much as possible and create a party and improvise as much as possible.

"Our music is proper- not comedy but the performance is about creating a party and being able to laugh at yourself. "
