A HAMPSHIRE Lego enthusiast says the likely demolition of a full-sized house built for Top Gear presenter James May is “sad but inevitable”.
Kevin Cooper who designed and oversaw the building of the majority of the furnishings including a flushing toilet, told the Daily Echo that the structure was too weak to be moved.
The house was built for the forthcoming TV show James May’s Toy Stories. The presenter stayed there on Friday night.
It had been hoped that the house would be displayed at the Legoland theme park but instead it is set to be broken up with chainsaws today.
However, Kevin, from Bishopstoke, says that the pieces he designed, including furniture, ornaments and a chess set, will be saved and he expects them to go on display at museums round the country.
He has also removed some items from the house which he built with his own Lego, including a model of Transformers character Devastator, which London toy store Hamleys have expressed an interest in displaying.
Kevin said: “It’s inevitable the house will be chopped up. It’s already showing signs of weakness and I don’t think it could be taken apart and moved. It is very sad after the huge amount of effort that’s gone into building it.”
