ART Asia’s new season of events hosts a spectrum of performers, from an artist at the top of his field, Nitin Sawhney, to international artists Sugato Bhaduri and Prabir Mitra, and local talent with Dhamaal 2010.
Art Asia also encourages you to become a budding performer through taster sessions at the International Women’s Evening, or in one of its various music and dance classes.
The season starts with Aakrisht, a captivating performance of Kathak dance and Indian classical music.
Kathak’s fast footwork, dramatic spins and delicate hand gestures is a stunning feat of stamina and grace.
The ragas (melodies) of the sitar and the talas (rhythms) of the tabla are the essence of Indian classical music.
Aakrisht visits Winchester Discovery Centre on February 5 and Forest Arts on April 23.
Southampton University students and local performers will showcase their talents at Dhamaal 2010.
The show has a festival atmosphere, and offers fashion shows, live music, comedy sketches and dance performances. This lively show will be at the Nuffield theatre on March 7.
Celebrating International Women’s Day, Art Asia and WEa present the fourth International Women’s Evening.
Join a host of women for an energetic evening of music and dance performances by local and professional artists.
Maybe take part in one of the fun taster sessions or browse the selection of stalls.
Women of all ages and backgrounds are invited to join in the fun at St Mary’s Leisure Centre on March 12.
Multi-award-winner Nitin Sawhney talks about his life in albums, performance, DJing, film, composition, video games, dance and theatre at the Turner Sims on March 16.
Sugato Bhaduri is one of the most sought-after mandolinists in India. He will be joined on stage by international tabla player Prabir Mitra at the West End Centre, Aldershot, on April 28.
Throughout term-time, Art Asia runs evening and weekend classes for adults and children. Due to their popularity, the Bollywood dance classes have moved to a bigger dance studio at Cantell College in Violet Road. There are now extra places available.
