Parking warden gives ticket to Moscow State Circus in Southampton

Parking ticket for Moscow State Circus Parking ticket for Moscow State Circus

IT’S enough to reduce a clown to tears.

When the world famous Moscow State Circus pitched up at Southampton’s Mayflower Park, the last thing they expected was to get a parking ticket.

A warden issued a ticket after claimed one of the Russian circus’ trailers was “not parked correctly in the markings of the bay”.

The circus’ UK manager Paul Archer said: “What a nice welcome for the Moscow State Circus to Southampton – it is just unbelievable.”

He added that the trailer had only been left in the car park during unloading so it would not plough up the grass.

After being contacted by the Daily Echo the city council, which is charging the circus several thousand pounds to use Mayflower Park, has agreed to drop the parking ticket.

A city council spokesman said: “Our enforcement officers have to walk a tightrope between common sense and enforcement of the law. In this case the ticket was issued correctly because of obstruction issues but having discussed it with the circus we recognise they tried to avoid damage to the park and on that basis we have decided to revoke the ticket.”

From today until the bank holiday the world’s most renowned circus’ fifth visit since 1997 will be dazzling with their amazing acrobatic feats.

If that Parking Warden loses his/her job - the Moscow State Circus is looking for a Knife-Thrower's Assistant....

If the lorry was causing an obstruction and the ticket was correctly given, then why would the council then cancel it?

MOSCOW State Circus!

I wonder whether Mike Hancock, the Portsmouth MP will be in a starring role.

According the press, he has put in some pretty good performances with his Russian assistant.

As well as successfully side stepping parking tickets, commercial vehicle licensing, and drivers hours regulations, I'd like to know how they circumvent the trades descriptions act by being based near Swindon yet still calling themselves the 'Moscow State Circus'? Surely that can't be right?

Congraulatoins to the Echo, well done what would people do without your help.
You managed to get a millionaire off paying a £30 parking ticket, I'm sure that they would not have been able to appeal without your help.
Now please can I have a free advert for my business, I got a parking ticket for overstaying my welcome in a pay and dispaly car park last year but I manned up and paid for my mistake.

It's called common sense and diplomacy.

I have never had a parking ticket, the fact that I haven't ever had a car is probably something to do with it.

So they pay thousands of pounds to use Mayflower park so contributing to the cities coffers & so one vehicle doesn't rip up the soggy grass some over eager traffic warden gives a ticket?
Maybe if he/she had asked for it to be moved or asked why it was parked there this whole incident could have been resolved.
instead of doing this the warden acted like a robot & put out a ticket the council who were already making money heard what happened & cancelled the said ticket,
then oh! bother the council have done wrong they should of hammered them .deterred them from ever coming back here & ruining peoples enjoyment.
Calling councillors clowns & slagging them off really shows the intelligence of these ant Tory posters.
I Can't wait for the results either way I will have fun either celebrating or telling you I told you so when Labours lies are found out. it's a win,win situation for me

How do we know if there was anyone there for the parking warden to communicate with??? We don't know the full circumstances and shouldn't assume the warden was in the wrong.
