INTERNATIONAL football, the grand prix, Cirque du Soleil, live theatre and now concerts.

Cinemas are really branching out from your regular old blockbusters these days it seems.

Robbie Williams has this week announced his Take The Crown stadium show to 70,000 in Estonia will be broadcast live to big screens across the UK.

It’s the penultimate show on his first solo stadium tour in seven years and will include all the big hits like Let Me Entertain You and Angels.

Now I’m not adverse to a bit of big screen action.

The screening of the National Theatre’s production of The Audience by Helen Mirren, which you couldn’t get a ticket for in real life for love nor money, was a triumph.

And far off sporting events you can’t get to really work in IMAX and surround sound.

If I could have dragged myself away from my perfect garden viewing point, I’m sure Andy Murray’s Wimbledon triumph in 3D would have been a real treat.

You need the immediacy of a live screening for sport where results matter. But a Robbie Williams concert a few weeks after several UK shows? I’m not sure about that.

The man’s a born entertainer and I’m sure the atmosphere will be electric in Tallinn if the reception Jedward received when I had the misfortune to choose the same hotel as them in the Estonian capital is anything to go by.

But surely that’s the whole point.

If you can’t watch Robbie out in the sunshine nursing a Pimms while dancing around with your mates belting out Kids and pretending to be Kylie Minogue, what’s the point?
