DISCO’S getting lucky, it seems.

The genre seems to be enjoying a real renaissance and I put that firmly down to the return to music of one Nile Rodgers, who I had the pleasure of interviewing this week.

In reality, of course, it never went away.

If it wasn’t for disco, there would be no house or hardcore, no drum ’n’ bass or dubstep.

Dance has been pilfering disco sounds since the advent of sampling.

But, on the other hand, it’s been derided for decades.

Without any new material from Kylie or Scissor Sisters on the horizon, it had really lost its way.

But disco now seems to be enjoying an Indian Summer, thanks to Daft Punk’s catchy hit of the year Get Lucky – a showcase for the incredible rhythmic guitar of the Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers.

Amy Winehouse brought soul to a new audience with Back to Black and now disco is having its moment in the sun with the new Daft Punk album Random Access Memories, with Rodgers of course a major contributor.

He’s the Mozart of Disco – and he’s coming to Bestival.

There’s even talk of an Elton John collaboration.
