I’VE woken up every day this week with the lyrics to ‘let’s go fly a kite’ springing immediately to mind.

It’s rather a jolly song. I’m a Disney fan, particularly Mary Poppins, so it’s certainly not the worst song I’ve ever had stuck in my head.

My current song affliction is down to the soon to be released Saving Mr Banks, which I had the pleasure of seeing at an advanced screening on Monday.

I have to say, it’s practically perfect.

The film pits the brilliant Tom Hanks as Walt Disney against Emma Thompson, who shines as Poppins’ prim creator P. L Travers. After a 20 year battle to make the movie, Disney finally gets the author’s signature after agreeing to a number of stipulations which are later discarded anyway – no making up words in songs, no moustache, no cavorting, twinkling, animation.

Frankly, he should have stuck with her no Dick Van Dyke rule as that awful English accent still grates to this day.

For people who really love love love Disney – Disneyland, Disney Channel, princesses, fluffy fish – what could be better than a Disney film about Walt Disney making Disney’s crowning cinematic achievement?

But don’t think it will all be carousels, dancing on chimneys and jumping into paintings, the childhood of Pamela Travers was dark to say the least.

This charming feature, due for release later this month, will make you look at the 1964 classic in which a nanny reunites a family in a completely different way.

And, as luck would have it, it’s just in time for the special 50th anniversary Blu-ray that will no doubt fly off the shelves come December.

Now where’s that Christmas list.
