SO Beckham is to team up with the Trotters.

When I first saw the headlines I did wonder why on earth the former England captain was considering coming out of retirement to join struggling Championship side Bolton, of all teams.

But no, Becks will be in Peckham with those comedy greats Del Boy and Rodney for a one-off Only Fools and Horses sketch for Sport Relief in March.

Pictures were released this week of the trio putting the world to rights as they gathered around a table in a greasy spoon cafe.

It will be the first time the cast have been reunited in a decade and I, for one, can’t wait.

Hopefully it will whet the appetite for a more lengthy comeback while the central cast are feeling sprightly enough to clamber into three-wheel vans, tackle those stairs at Nelson Mandela House and do a runner from Trading Standards when required.

Sir David Jason, aged 73, is obviously keen. He’s even encouraged fans to tweet their support.

Original script writer John Sullivan died in 2011, but left behind an array of unfinished Only Fools material.

And that has got to be potential TV gold.

Del may have been an 80s yuppy with the biggest mobile phone known to man, but I’d love to see how he would deal with devil child Damien as one of the Twitter generation.

Jason’s foray back into Open All Hours at Christmas was an unmitigated disaster in my book.

But I suspect Del Boy and Rodney are classic characters that could never grow old.

Come on, you know it makes sense.

He who dares, wins!
