QUEEN actually seem more prolific now than they ever did in their heyday.

By Queen, of course I actually mean Brian May and Roger Taylor, who have this week announced they are to release a new album.

Queen Forever will include previously unreleased tracks sung by Freddie Mercury – who died in 1991.

The songs were originally recorded in the 1980s, when the legendary band were “in full flight”, according to guitarist May, who said he was able to recreate their old sound, despite the recordings being almost three decades old, thanks to the wonders of 21st-century sound editing software.

While it’s very clever that modern technology allows this, it all just sits a little uncomfortably with me.

Bassist John Deacon retired from performing some time ago, but May and drummer Roger Taylor have continued to milk the cash cow ever since.

We Will Rock You closed in the West End earlier this year and a sequel is already written.

But while the musical theatre finances aren’t flowing and the Freddie Mercury biopic is not ready, they’ve decided to put out a new album.

Fans will no doubt enjoy the chance to listen to unheard offerings from their longdeparted idol.

But I’m cautious.

After all, there’s a reason these songs were not released in the first place.
