REMEMBER that cartoon you couldn’t get enough of during your childhood?

It’s coming back.

I’m not talking specifics here, but it’s almost certain to be the case whatever your taste in comic book capers, seeing as it’s happening to pretty much everything.

I’ve heard talk of films or TV shows revolving around everything from Bananaman to Danger Mouse and from Scooby to Teenage Mutant Hero – or Ninja – Turtles, depending on your age.

That’s not to mention the reappearance of marmaladescoffing Paddington who, this week, has had a ‘conscious uncoupling’ with Paddington Bear, the Hampshire actor who was due to voice him.

It all sounds like some sort of 80s cartoon orgy.

And, while I’m thrilled at the prospect of seeing Danger Mouse with some fancy new high-tech iPatch and can’t wait for Eric to Peel the Power in a Bananaman movie, it doesn’t always work.

Never mind, running out of new ideas, studio bosses are in danger of running out of old ideas if they carry on this way.

Nostalgia makes you feel all warm and fuzzy for your childhood, but these remakes can be disastrous. Think the go-go-gadget shocker that was the Inspector Gadget movie or Robbie Williams as Dougal in The Magic Roundabout and you get the picture.

On the bright side, there’s still hope for my personal 80s favourites – Pigeon Street and Super Ted.

What I wouldn’t give to see Long Distance Clara behind the wheel of that truck once more, Molly and Polly Glossop in their matching jumpers and Spotty to the rescue.

Those were the days!
