IT was one of the most hotly anticipated reveals on TV.

The BBC has unveiled the remainder of the new Top Gear presenting line up.

Joining broadcaster Chris Evans, former Friends star Matt Le Blanc and mystery motorist The Stig are Formula 1 commentator Eddie Jordan, German racing driver Sabine Schmitz, motoring journalist Chris Harris and car reviewer and TV presenter Rory Reid.

They're the team charged with bringing you motoring mayhem aplenty.

Only I'm not sure viewers were need to fasten their seatbelts in quite the same way for the new show.

They've been dubbed the magnificent seven - and I don't doubt their talent. Chris Evans, in particular, is a brilliant host, Sabine Schmitz has impressed in previous appearances on the show, Rory Reid earned his place through a round of public auditions and Matt Le Blanc is, well, Joey!

But such a huge line up of such diverse characters does seem like political correctness gone mad.

Director General Lord Tony Hall will no doubt be breathing a huge sigh of relief that the new line up differs so completely from controversy courting Clarkson and co. The new faces are certainly more squeaky clean than their predecessors.

Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond and their antics may not have been terribly BBC. But they were popular.

I'm not entirely sure where your laddish white, male, middle class, heterosexual licence fee player will get his fix of political incorrectness from courtesy of the public service broadcaster in future.

Top Gear's much-loved previous lineup will be a tough act to follow.

And, with so many viewers jumping ship to the new home of the former Top Gear trio and other streaming services, BBC bosses should ignore 6 million viewers at their peril.
