IT'S hardly the (perfect) moment we've all been waiting for.

But everyone else in the world of pop is making a comeback, so why on earth not?

It seems Martine McCutcheon has new music on the way in 2016.

The ex-EastEnders star took to the stage in London this week to perform an intimate showcase for industry insiders, giving them a preview of two brand new songs.

Word is that she has lost none of the vocal talent she displayed when her debut album You Me & Us went double platinum all those years ago. She impressed the select crowd with a superb performance alongside husband Jack McManus on keyboard.

It's been 14 years since the release of Martine's third album Musicality, which peaked at number 55 in the UK, lost her her recording contract and, everyone thought, her recording career.

But, once upon a time, she was one of the best selling pop stars in the country with her debut single Perfect Moment topping the UK singles chart and four further Top 10 hits to her name.

I've always rather liked her, particularly as lovable, foul-mouthed aid to the new Prime Minister Natalie in one of my all time favourite films, which is an absolute must every Christmas.

The 40-year-old mother of one has also revealed she came close to quitting showbiz altogether until the role in Love Actually came along.

I only hope the new music doesn't do for her singing career what snogging Hugh Grant did for her on screen persona.

She's now a panellist on ITV's Loose Women and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
