BEFORE the 2016 series of Strictly got under way, few would have placed a bet on former MP Ed Balls having a chance of winning the whole thing.

But, not only has he miraculously made it to the latter Blackpool stages of the competition, but he's now one of the favourites to scoop the glitter ball this year.

Last week, he and dance partner Katya Jones wowed the audience with a pretty lively jive to Great Balls of Fire. The judges, of course, were less impressed.

Pretty much the same applied the previous week with his Gangnam style routine, which made everyone smile even if they were hiding behind their sofa cushions cringing.

Even judge Craig Revel Horwood has now admitted that the pair could go on to win.

And why on earth not?

He's certainly getting more entertaining by the week. And isn't that what it's all about?

Yes it's a talent show, but it's a talent show where the contestants are vaguely famous laymen who don't claim to be experts and are there to improve and go on that cliched journey.

And it's all about entertaining the audience, which he has obviously been doing judging by the vote.

With the final fast approaching, he has split opinion with some viewers taking to social media to say the presence of Ed Balls is undermining the show's credibility.

The politician is adamant he won't do a John Sergeant and be forced off the dancefloor for fear he might actually scoop the Strictly title.

The voting public have turned the joke on TV bosses.

And what they say goes.

I look forward to seeing what dreadfully brilliant dance has been dreamed up for him this weekend.
