A Degree of Success

SO it’s Doctor Dannii.

The Australian TV star has been awarded an honorary degree, becoming a Doctor of Media at Southampton Solent University, this week.

I’m always delighted when our wonderful city is linked with the great and good, especially when they look as happy she seemed to be, throwing her head back and laughing in her fancy mortar board and graduation cloak while gripping tightly to her prized scroll.

For what it’s worth, I think Dannii Minogue is a great role model to anyone aspiring to get into the media and, despite not mirroring her sister Kylie’s international chart-topping success, she’s had an interesting and probably noteworthy career as an actress, singer, presenter and designer.

But it took me years of study, and very nearly a nervous breakdown during the final days before deadline on my 10,000 word dissertation, to get my degree in journalism.

And she didn’t even have to live in a mouseinfested house, go through the torture of learning shorthand or drink solidly for three entire years.

Still, sitting on The X Factor panel between Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh for a season is probably punishment enough.
