YET another coup from Isle of Wight Festival promoter John Giddings then. He’s booked The Boss for 2012, he announced this week.

No doubt music lovers will be snapping up tickets when they go on sale at 9am today. Because Isle of Wight Festival is fabulous and also because Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will only be playing four UK concerts in 2012.

I’m hardly a lifelong fan, but I’m excited to see one of the greatest singer songwriters and showmen in rock ’n’ roll history on stage.

Plus I might even get to hang out with him backstage and that’s pretty cool by anyone’s standards.

Just one thing is worrying me about his appearance.

The Boss is renowned for particularly long shows, even topping the four-hour mark with one legendary set in New York in the 80s.

He’s 62 and shows no signs of flagging, but I’m just over half of that and I’m not sure I’ve got the energy, the stamina or the concentration span, particularly after a visit to the Pimms tent.

Perhaps that’s the reason Springsteen and the E Street Band have been scheduled for the Sunday night slot. If he started the festival, he might never stop.

I would like to see at least a little of all the other wonderful acts that will no doubt be on offer if Giddings has anything to do with it though.

So quality not quantity, please Bruce.

Bruce laughed and smiled at her.. special it was!
