JAY-Z is about as dangerous as it gets.
It all sounds like a great big love in, but the line up for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert this summer is nothing if not predictable.
Gary Barlow, also known as the new Bono or Sir Bob, didn’t cheer me up by putting himself or his man band mates on the bill and couldn’t even persuade 90s counterparts The Spice Girls to reform for the gig.
But he did secure the US rapper, as well as Jessie J, JLS and Ed Sheeran, apparently at the request of Princes William and Harry, and to make things look vaguely of the moment.
Of course the concert quite rightly reflects Her Majesty’s six decades on the throne with some musical legends of the recent past including Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Tom Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey.
There’s a theme developing here – Jools Holland OBE, Annie Lennox OBE... the list goes on.
And there was me thinking rock n roll by its very essence was antiestablishment.
Not any more it seems. Those performing for the royals at Buckingham Palace this year look to me very much like rock royalty themselves.
