YOU can forgive them for trumpeting about their pub.

The team behind The Bugle in Hamble have cooked up the perfect recipe for success over the last decade.

As well as being a popular watering hole, the pub has gained a reputation for its gastro grub.

The mouth-watering menu, which includes fresh fish dishes and classic pub meals, has proved such a hit that it has won a coveted AA rosette as well as an entry in Michelin’s Eating Out in Pubs guide.

It features such delights as sea bass with spinach gnocchi, smoked fish cakes, beef blades and duck with celeriac puree. Three is also a traditional roast on Sunday.

People come from far and wide to enjoy the bar’s setting. Its location, just metres from the River Hamble, makes it the ideal place to start or finish a visit to the picturesque village.

Wine tasting events, mussel nights and monthly Meet Your Neighbours gatherings ensure that there is a steady stream of regulars coming through the doors all year round.

The Grade II-listed building, decked out with flagstone floors, exposed beams and brickwork and open fires, even features a special private dining area upstairs called The Captain’s Table.

Famous names regularly stop in for a drink and bite to eat, including former Great Britain athlete Ewan Thomas and Hampshire’s very own Olympic gold medal winning cyclist Dani King.

The pub is part of the Hampshirebased Ideal Collection group, which also has establishments in Southampton, Otterbourne and Winchester.

Assistant manager Brenton Watson said the bar was particularly popular with sailors and that food was one of its biggest appeals.

“It is the second oldest pub in Hamble,” he said.

“The owner wants a place where everyone can come.

“We get strong local business here and we think it is just a quality local.”
