IS it a rural hotel, village pub, skittle alley, top restaurant, or a place to enjoy a pint in a country garden? – in fact, the King’s Head is all of these.

The watering hole in Hursley is popular with many villagers along with visitors and also staff at the nearby IBM complex.

Owned by several local entrepreneurs, it has been run since September 2011 by Demetrakis Hajiantoni, or “Jimmy” to his friends.

His wife, Alison, is an interior designer and has updated the decor of the venue, which underwent a major refit in 2009.

Further improvements to the garden and skittle alley are planned, but many customers are already very satisfied with what the King’s Head has to offer.

The venue especially prides itself on its food. The head chef, Andy Taylor-Rose, was recruited from Rhinefield House Hotel in the New Forest.

His team has put together lunch, afternoon and dinner menus that change regularly and offer high-quality modern British cuisine.

Some of the people who dine at the venue also stay there as the King’s Head offers bed and breakfast. Prices for a single room start at £75 and for those pushing the boat out, £114 can secure a double room with a four-poster bed.

Supervisor Christine Saunders said: “The people that come here often don’t go that far because there are some nice walks in the area and they can eat and drink in the pub.”

She added that the venue is family friendly, and one of the rooms is suitable for guests that want to bring their dogs.

Breakfast is available to residents and non-residents and the venue also holds regular events.

It includes live music along with curry nights that are held on the first Tuesday of each month. The pub also serves five real ales in the bar, along with several wines by the glass and the bottle.
