Exeter City 1 Barnet 0

Nationwide League Division Three

Former Barnet striker Alex Inglethorpe broke Bees hearts on Tuesday after scoring an injury-time winner for Exeter.

Inglethorpe, who had not played for the Grecians this year, came on at the start of the second half. After he had missed two chances, the game looked destined to end goalless. Then a cross from Kwame Impadu was flicked on and Inglethorpe, with his back to goal, hooked the ball over his shoulder into the net fom 12 yards.

It was rough justice for Barnet, who had deserved at least a point.

The first half prouced few scoring chances but Barnet got on top early in the second half and Tony Cottee just failed to get in a diving header following a flick by Danny Brown, who tested Arjan Van Heusden with a powerful free-kick.

Darren Currie was unlucky when his effort was headed off the line by one-time Bees defender Jamie Campbell.

This was Barnet's sixth successive away league defeat and they face stiff tests on their travels to Hull City on Saturday and Mansfield on Tuesday.

Despite their financial problems which have brought the club into administration, Hull have been in good form recently, with four straight wins lifting them to ninth place, four points below the play-off contenders.

On Tuesday the Tigers beat Mansfield 2-1 at Boothferry Park with goals by Kevin Francis and Rodney Rowe. It was the second successive defeat for Mansfield also beaten 1-0 at home to leaders Chesterfield last Saturday. They are now in 14th place with three points more than Barnet, who have two games in hand.
