THERE are no judges, just superb skating and plenty of sequins.

Former Olympic gold medal skater Robin Cousins may be attracting millions of TV viewers as the head judge on ITV’s Dancing on Ice, but this is where he really excels – choreographing a spectacular show.

As he embarks on a tour of theatres, more than 30 years after he created the groundbreaking Electric Ice, he is once again bringing the ice show bang up to date.

This is skating like nothing you’ve ever seen before and really pushes the boundaries in a setting that feels very intimate.

There were a few near misses on opening night last night, thankfully not during any of the impressive aerial displays or lifts, but that’s the beauty of live theatre.

A cast of 14 of the world’s top skaters spin, glide, flip, jump and turn gracefully across a specially made surface on the Mayflower stage.

Daily Echo:

In a series of solo efforts, duos, group pieces and ensemble numbers, the audience were left enthralled in a slick two-hour show set to a brilliant soundtrack.

The tempo changed from Walk Like An Egyptian to More Than Words in seconds and the upbeat sequence to a version of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance was a treat.

There were death spirals, bounce spins, throw twists, Detroiters and much more to be wowed by.

The finale, to the sounds of (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher, allowed the skaters to show off a number of their solo tricks.

And what a treat to have a world premiere in Southampton once again. It’s daring and dazzling – and you can see it here first
