PUPILS at Oak Lodge School Specialist Arts College have taken to the stage with their own version of the epic play War Horse.
The extraordinary production from autistic youngsters is the culmination of a project with the Mayflower Theatre and based around the show’s recent visit to Southampton and this year’s centenary of the First World War.
Theatre lovers from the school in Dibden Purlieu have taken part in Page to Stage workshops, worked with puppeteers from the touring show and National Theatre trained practitioners and had a visit from the National Army Museum with over 100 exhibits to touch, try on and experience.
Pupils also visited St Barbe’s Museum in Lymington for a workshop connected to the Homeboy exhibition and have even made their own horse, which has been invited to London to meet the real “Joey” along with his creators.
