YOUNG dancers are being given the chance to take their skills to the next level at an annual summer school.

The Point in Eastleigh throws open its doors every summer to up and coming dancers looking to brush up their skills as part of the Elevate Summer School.

The summer school is aimed at dancers aged from 14 to 21 who are currently in or are aspiring to be in professional vocational dance training.

This year Elevate, which runs from August 4 to 8, is expanding to include day long creative workshops as well as the chance to take part in daily morning classes and exciting evening classes.

The summer school covers a range of dance styles and will be led by some of the country’s top dancers and choreographers.

Morning class from 9am will give dancers the chance to warm up ahead of creative workshops from 11am to 5pm, focusing on creating and choreographing dance pieces in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere. Evening classes until 7.30pm will then offer the chance to try a variety of dance styles including break, acrobalance, Hip Hop and African Dance.

Vicki Hargreaves, dance development manager, said: “Elevate gives young dancers thinking of pursuing or already on a professional dance training course the chance to build on their skills as well as keep fit during the summer holidays.”

The following week – August 11 to 15 – The Point opens up its doors for Elevate: Integrate.

This summer school provides a platform for disabled and non-disabled dancers to work together and is suitable for those with limited movement or verbal comprehension.

During the week dancers will work with one of the country’s leading integrated professional companies Stopgap Dance (UK).

The week will include a daily warm-up class led by dancers from Stopgap, improvisation and contact work.

Places on both summer schools are limited and applications must be made by Friday.
