Southampton University Players (SUPs) will be presenting Alan Ayckbourn’s award-winning comedy Absurd Person Singular, at the Nuffield Theatre from January 20-24.

And once again the group is fundraising for local charity Naomi House and Jacksplace.

Winner of the Evening Standard Award for best Comedy and Ayckbourn’s longest-running West End show, SUPs amateur production means local audiences can experience the agonisingly funny farce, while raising money for a very worthwhile cause.

The perfect antidote to the post Chistmas blues, Ayckbourn’s masterpiece of farce peeps behind the kitchen door at parties to observe the ‘ideal hosts’ as they really are, holding on for dear life, while fortunes change and relationships strain.

With ridiculous situations that are best seen in live theatre, the show promises to have audiences reaching for their tissues as tears of laughter stream down their face!

The technically complex set, with each of the three act sets in a completely different kitchen, has been no mean feat for an amateur group to accomplish.

“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Southampton public and University staff who have for the past three months been donating and transporting unwanted fridges, kitchen cupboards, washing machines and more across the city, in order to bring this production to the Nuffield stage for the Hospice,” said director Bridget Wilkinson.

With a talented cast from several theatre groups around the city and a cameo radio appearance of Southampton’s rising musical stars, The Lounge Kittens, it looks set to be a great show.
