OTTERBOURNE Drama Group’s show represented a solidly traditional family panto with all the expected ingredients.

With lavish, spectacular costumes and well-wrought scenery this was a handsomely presented production to delight the eye. There were some impressive effects and a soundtrack cleverly honed by musical director Richard Daniels.

At this early point in the run the show was still bedding down, with certain fluffs and uncertainties to be ironed out. The pacing was a little uneven – a little slow at times in the long first half, but managed perfectly in the pacy second act.

The company put their all into the production and their enthusiasm was delightful to behold. At the centre were some noteworthy performances: Holly Williams (Robinson Crusoe) and Nicole Morris (Juanita); John Pitman as dame Margarita Juicilita and Kevin Warne (Nutty Nick); Louis Still the sweet voiced cabin boy Jack; Barbara Hancox the good spirit Coral; and Nathan Smith a droll Friday.
