SOUTHAMPTON’S exciting new venue The Stage Door will present its first show next week.
Local producers Sam Quested and Adam Myers – both multiple Daily Echo Curtain Call award winners – “couldn’t have been happier” when they landed the deal to produce musicals for the venue in the heart of Southampton.
“Never afraid of a challenge”, they kick off their season with the groundbreaking Broadway musical American Idiot, with music by the punk rock band Green Day.
The musical is based on the band’s famous album, and follows the story of three friends struggling to make sense of a post 9-11 America.
Adam said: “Sam and I didn’t expect the brilliant music and lyrics to become so engrained in our minds. We have really worked hard to bring a freshness to the score and a clarity to the story that will make the piece accessible to not just Green Day fans, but to local theatre goers”.
Sam said: “We think audiences are going to be really surprised and experience something they will not have seen locally until now. We are both really proud.”
The show opens on Wednesday at the new The Stage Door theatre just off Guildhall Square and runs for two weeks. Tickets are available from £12 at ticketsouth.com or 023 8071 1818
