A HAMPSHIRE theatre is welcoming back a renowned choreographer for a revival of his first ever full-length piece.

More than 10 years after it was first created Akram Khan has teamed up with Anish Kapoor and Nitin Sawhney to give his work Kaash a new lease of life.

Its name translates as ‘if only’ in Hindi and the work continues his quest to bridge the gap between contemporary dance and the Indian classical style Kathak.

In 2002 Kaash was inspired by Hindu Gods, black holes, Indian time cycles, tablas, creation and destruction.

Akram said: “As our first full-length company piece back in 2002, where I had the great opportunity of collaborating with Anish Kapoor and Nitin Sawhney, Kaash holds a very special place in our journey and in our hearts, and I am excited that it is now our first ever revival.

“Our new five-strong cast of international performers will shed another light and energy on the piece, focused on physicality and precision that I believe still has all its relevance today.”

The revival of Kaash will be performed at The Point theatre in Eastleigh on June 17, 7.30pm.

  • Tickets cost £18, £16 for concessions and £14 for schools. To book go to thepointeastleigh.co.uk or ring the box office on 023 8065 2333.
