THE Point will present work from its six dance companies in Dance Showcase, a unique night of entertainment on Wednesday.

It promises innovative, original and memorable dance pieces.

The companies involved are three groups from The Point Youth Dance Company, Hampshire Youth Dance Company, Retrospectif Dance Company and Next Step. E

Hampshire Youth Dance Company is presenting a work in progress entitled Legacy. Led by Tory East, Legacy celebrates 20 years of HYDC in 2016 by exploring the past, present and future through innovative dance moves realised by young dancers.

The Point Youth Dance Company will present three separate sharings, led by different dance teachers. PYDC 8-11 years will showcase Journeys, led by The Point’s Dance Development Manager Vicki Hargreaves. Journeys is a quirky and fascinating performance which has been inspired by the young dancers everyday movement through life. Natalie Watson leads PYDC 12-15 years and Hayley Barker, Associate Artist at The Point, leads PYDC 15-18 years.

Agent for Dance Excellence KJ Mortimer leads The Point’s older adult company Retrospectif who will be sharing their development of Focus In, a work which has studied the way in which people pass energy from one another.

Completing the lineup is Next Step, The Point’s dance company for people with learning disabilities, led by Rosa Kentwood and entitled What’ll I do now? The sharing will demonstrate the work of Next Step’s most recent project which is focused on exploring the emotion of being imprisoned. The group have taken inspiration from Christopher Bruces’s dance piece Swansong and have devised their own interpretation of life behind bars.
