SOUTH Downe Musical Society sing and dance their way onto the Ferneham Hall stage with their version of one of the most iconic film musicals of all time.

Grease was the surprise 1978 summer blockbuster and helped catapult John Travolta to stardom and secure Olivia Newton-John as a pop sweetheart. Portchester based award-winning South Downe Musical Society have now added the stage show to their repertoire for the first time.

Sandy is a goody two shoes whilst Danny is the head T-Bird from Rydell High. However when the two meet up during the summer, they fall in love.

When the two discover that they attend the same school, there is a lot of debate over whether they can still be together since it's uncool for Danny to be in love with a goody-goody like Sandy. However the two, against all odds, manage to stay together. Then graduation comes and Sandy is about to change in a way no one expected.

Playing the role of Sandy for SDMS is Hannah Ali, no stranger to the stage as she performs professionally as her Country and Western alter ego Lily Garland.

Hannah says, “I’m so excited to be playing the role of Sandy, it’s something I imagined doing as a child but never thought it would happen! Being part of the Grease cast is amazing. I am surrounded by such talent and wonderful people, rehearsals are so much fun and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have done with such an iconic production”.

The task of filling John Travolta’s boots and taking a turn as bad boy Danny has fallen to relative SDMS newcomer Perry Ralls, most recently see in dazzling form as The Mikado in SDMS’ recent production of Hot Mikado. Perry says, “This year has been literally non-stop and Grease represents my fourth lead role in a hectic couple of months – but how could I turn down stepping into Travolta’s dancing shoes!”.

So Join Danny and Sandy, along with those groovy T-Birds, sassy Pink Ladies and the whole gang at Rydell High for this high octane Rock'n'Roll party, which includes Summer Lovin’, Greased Lightning, Born To Hand Jive, Beauty School Dropout and many more timeless classics.
