NUFFIELD Southampton Theatres have launched plans for the 2017 Hampshire County Youth Theatre (HCYT) this summer. Open to young people ages 13 – 21years across Hampshire, the project will be to create and perform a brand new production of Brainstorm on the main stage at Nuffield Southampton Theatres. The project will run from August 14 to 25.

Brainstorm is a celebrated piece of theatre for young people. Originally created by young people from Company 3, Brainstorm provides HCYT 2017 with a blueprint for making a brand new version.

The play takes recent discoveries of neuroscience as its jumping off point; how does the human brain evolve from childhood to adulthood? The teenage years have always been the time when life has its greatest potential; it’s the stage when brains have more connections than at any other point in life. This is the energy and process that can determine the person we become.

Rupert Rowbotham, Head of Engagement at Nuffield said, “HCYT is a prestigious project for aspiring theatre makers and performers. This year taking part in Brainstorm really will provide Hampshire’s young people with a chance to make their summer. It’s a fantastic opportunity to take part in a project where individual ideas can be developed through rehearsal into performance and to perform on the main stage at Nuffield”
