LAST NIGHT'S REVIEW: Dreamboats and Petticoats, Mayflower Theatre

IF a non stop rock n roll ride is what you're after, you've come to the right place.

Dreamboats and Petticoats brings you all the superb sounds of the sixties, complete with stunning outfits of the era, instruments played beautifully live on stage and a hugely talented and energetic cast revelling in a feast of nostalgia.

Much of the audience were taking a trip down memory lane reliving their youth, but you certainly didn't need to be born in the right era to love all the hits from music's greatest ever decade. I loved every minute of this upbeat show and knew the vast majority of the singalong score - everything from The Wanderer to Poetry in Motion in the first act and Dream Lover to Happy Birthday Sweet 16 after the interval.

There was audience participation throughout and the entire crowd were itching to get on their feet for a rowdy finale. It's possibly the first time I've seen people twisting and jiving in the aisles to the sounds of Let's Twist Again and At The Hop, but I'm sure it won't be the last time this week.

It's a funny show too, even if the occasional in joke or one-liner was lost on me, a teenager of the 90s.

The story centres around Bobby (Alistair Higgins), a 60s Essex teen with dreams of romance and rock n roll. Stand out performances come from Laura (Elizabeth Carter) who wants to be 'Bobby''s Girl' and her brother and his best friend Ray (David Luke) who has all the wisecracks and some punchy numbers.

A fabulous feelgood feast of a show, I could watch it again and again.
