COMEDIES don’t come any blacker than The Pillowman, Martin McDonagh’s awarding-winning play about the power of story-telling, which opens in Romsey on Wednesday for four nights only.

Set in an imagined totalitarian state, the play is based around the questioning and brutal torture of a writer whose stories bear an uncanny resemblance to a number of recent horrific child murders. Martin McDonagh pulls no punches with his theme, and the black humour is not for the faint-hearted.

Since its opening at the National Theatre in 2003, the play has dazzled audiences and critics across the world. It received the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Play, and the 2004-5 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best New Foreign Play.

Now RAODS bring it to the Plaza stage.
