THE Chesil Theatre, Winchester, has chosen the classic comedy, Blithe Spirit by Noël Coward for a rousing start to their new season.

While researching his new novel, Charles Condomine invites eccentric medium, Madame Arcati, to hold a séance at his home. The unintended consequences lead to a merry dance of mayhem and murder. with one husband, two feuding wives and a hint of mischief in the air. The sparkling, witty play will be directed by Tom Williams.

He said: "Blithe Spirit was written in 1941 as an ‘improbable farce’ to bring some light relief in the darkest days of the war and ran for 1997 performances.

"Hardly a year has passed since without a production somewhere in the UK. Indeed, this is the third presentation at the Chesil Theatre, the others being in1974 and 2002."

Some of the Chesil's most experienced actors are taking part in this production guaranteed to brighten the evenings of early autumn.

It runs from tomorrow for a week.
