A BOLD new adaptation of Harold Pinter’s classic The Caretaker comes to Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) next week.

Produced by Bristol Old Vic and Royal & Derngate and directed by Christopher Haydon (Grounded, Twelve Angry Men), The Caretaker firmly sets the paranoia of living in an ever-changing landscape against our own politically and culturally uncertain times. NST are the only other venue to feature on the tour.

Patrice Naiambana (Barber Shop Chronicles, National Theatre) take on the iconic role of Davies, and will be joined by dynamic young actors David Judge (Hollyoaks; Prey; American Haunting) and Jonathan Livingstone (Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s Globe; Now We Are Here, Young Vic; War Horse, National Theatre), bringing this radical revival of Pinter’s classic to life for a new generation.

The Caretaker tells the riveting tale of Aston, who welcomes the homeless Davies into his dilapidated flat, sheltering him from the violence of the streets. Recognising an opportunity, Davies attempts to leave his past behind and start afresh. But what is he being offered? Friendship? Shelter? A job? Or a home?

When Mick, the landlord arrives, he confronts the unexpected guest and the three men begin to circle one another suspiciously, each desperate to turn this new situation to their advantage, whatever the cost.

The Caretaker runs from Tuesday to Saturday.
