FOLLOWING a critically acclaimed sold out season at the National Theatre and in London’s West End, People, Places and Things comes to Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) next week with Irish-born Lisa Dwyer Hogg (St Joan, Signatories, The Fall) taking over the role of Emma.

Written by Duncan Macmillan (1984, Every Brilliant Thing, Lungs), directed by Headlong Artistic Director Jeremy Herrin (This House, The Nether, Wolf Hall/Bring Up the Bodies), and designed by Olivier and Tony award-winning designer Bunny Christie (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), People, Places and Things is an intoxicating play about surviving the modern world, which explores one woman’s entanglement in addiction, treatment and self-awareness.

Emma was having the time of her life. Now she’s in rehab. Her first step is to admit that she has a problem with drink and drugs. But the problem isn’t with Emma, it’s with everything else.

She needs to tell the truth, but she’s smart enough to know that there’s no such thing. When intoxication feels like the only way to survive the modern world, how can she ever sober up?

Joining Lisa in Jeremy Herrin’s much anticipated UK revival of People, Places and Things, are Michael Balogun (Shaun), Trevor Fox (Paul & Dad), Susan Lawson-Reynolds (Jodi), Ekow Quartey (Foster), Andrew Sheridan (Mark), Imogen Slaughter (Meredith), Aimee-Lou Wood (Laura) and Matilda Ziegler (Doctor & Mum).

People, Places and Things is part of NST’s autumn season of smash hit theatre, which also includes critically acclaimed hits Things I Know To Be True and Hetty Feather, which both open in November.
