Candoco Dance Company, the world’s leading contemporary dance company of disabled and non-disabled performers, will be presenting their latest commission, CounterActs, on Tuesday April 17 at Theatre Royal, Winchester.

In this double bill, Candoco Dance Company presents commissions from two rising stars of the British dance scene, Hetain Patel and Alexander Whitley.

Visual artist Hetain Patel’s critically acclaimed Let’s Talk About Dis is a playful and intimate piece exploring the dancers’ personalities and bodies, questioning what identity is and how it is formed.

With seductive charm, Hetain challenges audiences to think beyond surface appearances, exposing hidden prejudices and misplaced political correctness.

While Sadler’s Wells New Wave Associate Alexander Whitley’s Beheld, creates a visually striking dance piece, incorporating sinuous and expressive movement articulations.

Set to a mesmerising score by composer Nils Frahm, this is a resonant and emotive piece performed with reckless flair.

CounterActs blends playful choreography with thought-provoking ideas in a stirring programme that shows contemporary dance in a new light, all while pushing boundaries and challenging notions of dance.

Candoco produces excellent and profound experiences for audiences and participants that excite, challenge and broaden perceptions of art and ability, and place people and collaboration at the heart of their work.
