THIS year is set to be a very special year for the members of Westfield Productions as the company turns 75.

They celebrate this week by returning to The Point in Eastleigh to perform the classic pantomime Cinderella.

Back in 1938, the residents of Swaythling formed their own amateur dramatics group, called The Swaythling Dramatic Society.

The first production was held in October 1938 at Westfield Hall, a one act play called Mystery Cottage.

Alongside the performance, part of the evening included a performance by the Stoneham Male Voice Choir and was followed by an evening of dancing.

The company continued to perform dramatic works up to the war, when focus was turned to entertaining the troops.

This included a two month run of the three act farce Happy Days.

A junior section was formed during the war and, from a modest beginning in 1940, the section rose to over 40 people aged from five to 15 just a year later.

One of the early shows performed by the section was at the Eastleigh Town Hall to the Mayor and Mayoress.

The company evolved to become Westfield Variety Company and then in 1983, Westfield Productions.

They performed a yearly pantomime from 1964 and took on performing two shows a year from 1982.

In recent years the company has evolved still further, each year performing a pantomime, two summer productions and a show collaborating with other local dance schools.

The Point has been the home of the annual pantomime, starting with Sleeping Beauty in 1999, then a special Millennium pantomime in 2000 and now the anniversary production of Cinderella.

Westfield Productions has achieved a number of awards, most recently an Accolade of Excellence from NODA for Dick Whittington in 2011 and winning Best Pantomime in the Daily Echo Curtain Call Awards for 2010 and 2011.

From tomorrow at The Point in Eastleigh, follow Cinders and Buttons on their bumpy journey to find love, hampered by the mischief and jealousy of two very ugly sisters.

Cinderella promises to be a magical treat for the whole family.

Tickets for Cinderella are available on 023 8065 2333 or at thepointeastleigh.
