THE MISANTHROPE

WIDELY considered to be Moliere’s greatest play, The Misanthrope is set to grace the stage at Winchester’s Chesil Theatre for a week from tomorrow.

Like the leading protagonist in some of Moliere’s other classics, Alceste is a difficult and obsessive character but unlike them, Alceste is also an attractive man and the audience is drawn into sympathising with his obsession with the superficiality and hypocrisy of society.

The play is funny, thoughtful and sad – sometimes all in the one speech.

OLIVER TWIST

REG Mitchell’s adaptation on Dickens’ classic tale of Oliver Twist captures the enormity of the story when Oliver makes his escape from the workhouse to the streets of London and is then forced into a world of crime and adventure.

Just as relevant to today as it was when it was written, it is a tale of child exploitation abuse, and a little bit of redemption!

Studio Youth Theatre perform Oliver Twist, directed by Peter Kelly at Studio Theatre in Salisbury from Monday to Thursday.
