A SHOW with a complicated genesis, Anything Goes, here presented in the 1987 Broadway Beaumont version, nevertheless luxuriated in the sublime music of Cole Porter.
The convoluted plot was handled with nimbleness and panache by director Jacqui Ivemy, who produced a show with pace, a lightness of touch and wit.
The handsome-looking production had a sophisticated aura that beautifully underpined the sophistication of the music and humour.
The material was done full justice by a great ensemble cast. Of particular note were Jessica Manns as the sexy gangster’s moll Erma, Declan-Dali Murphy (Public Enemy No 13 Moonface Martin) and Josh Dennis (Lord Evelyn Oakleigh).
At the centre were two commanding performances – Matt Fisher (Billy Crocker) had an easy charm and great stage presence, whilst Ellie Jones (Reno Sweeney) gave a fitting finale to her Stage One career with a droll, stylish performance of maximum star wattage.
