THE beautiful backdrop of the Bishop’s Palace Gardens provided this open air production the opportunity for a much larger cast and grander scale of show than would be feasible in the intimate space of the Chesil Theatre.
Director Martin Humphrey made full use of the space to create a dynamic, playful and witty show.
This was a cleverly staged production, beautifully costumed and with a deceptively simply set. The frequent sword fights were well choreographed and excitingly executed.
Despite a few first night fluffs, the action was energetico and the acting was nicely done with the cast well immersed into their roles.
The musketeers made a swaggering quartet, well drawn and well played.
A heavy dousing with rain on the first night did nothing to dampen the spirits; the show had all the ingredients of a fine evening's entertainment.
