Disney’s popular film deservedly earns seasonal repeat television airings and drew a capacity half-term audience to the intimate surroundings of this venue.

The tiny stage always poses problems for the company but the creative team came up trumps with a colourful, inventive set, for which Sally Whyte deserves great credit, as director and designer.

Becky North gave a very confident portrayal of lead character Cruella de Vil, but top dogs on the night were Alla Mills (Missis), Harriet Cairnes (Pongo) and Marina Brown-Smith (Perdita), who obviously loved every minute if their enthusiastic tail-wagging was anything to go by.

The Baddun Brothers, Steven Reynolds and Angela Hunt, provided knockabout humour, but the appearance of three real Dalmatians in the finale was a delightful surprise.

Lucie Evans sang beautifully to link the scenes, backed by Valerie Rossiter’s trio, but a show that was perhaps over-long and lacked pace at times was carried by the enthusiasm of the cast.
