One might expect a stage version of this most famous Sherlock Holmes story to be so predictable it’s borderline tedious.

But this version, scripted by Steven Canny and John Nicholson in 2007 for the group Peepolykus, rips into the original and milks it for every possible gag, send up and moment of visual comedy, with a cool disregard for the suspension of disbelief that the audience takes to its heart, responding with torrents of laughter and appropriate applause.

Director Hannah Wood maintains a brisk pace and is blessed with three skilled performers to portray the show’s dozen characters.

Vincent Adams is suitably fruity voiced as Holmes and, unimpeded by his beard, trilling as Cecile and Mrs Barrymore.

Neil Hunt (on his debut for TFT) is Dr Watson, sharing many effective comedy moments with Sam Goodall, as Sir Henry Baskerville and several others. They all show great lightness of feet for this light hearted production.
