PEAR Tree Church Hall was the setting for this new musical, celebrating the music of 1965.

Playwright Simon Cousens cast himself as Tom, running The Hop Diner, the setting for much of the action.

The storyline, based around Rex, (Darren Warrener), seemingly an American whose motorbike had broken down, falling for young Susie (Megan Dale).

They begin a relationship against the wishes of her parents (Kath Cousens and Tracy Andrews) as she was only 15. Rex’s murky past unravels as the show develops and he lands himself in more trouble.

These leading cast-members deliver a lively juke-box full of hits that suit each occasion, including a lengthy sequence covering the CND marches, following which the dance between Rex and Susie to Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit’ was a highlight.

The company welcomes youngsters of all abilities and although, understandably, things didn’t always go to plan, the enthusiasm for them to succeed makes it worthwhile.
