42nd Street

Performing Arts Company

Berry Theatre, Hedge End

42nd Street is one of those musicals that you hope will have you tapping your feet along to some great dance numbers and caught up in the wish fulfilment storyline of the talented chorus girl (Peggy) who steps up, saves the show and becomes a star.

PAC's production certainly delivered on the toe tapping numbers, performed with great enthusiasm and admirable skill by the cast. We're in the money was a real show stopper, although rendering the big finale - 42nd Street - a little drab by comparison.

This was very much an ensemble piece: the enthusiasm and engagement of the whole cast was evident. Poppy George made a perky Peggy, singing the role nicely. Cathy Pearce and Owen Hawes were delightful as the writers Maggie Jones and Burt Barry. Jane Turnham had fun as diva Dorothy Brock, while Lewis Philpott brought gravitas to the role of Julian Marsh.
