REVIEW: Salad Days
Footlights Youth Theatre
Plaza Theatre, Romsey
A light and quirky tale of two friends in their "salad days" fresh from university when they were youthful and naïve and their encounter with a very special piano, this is a perfect summer show.
Director Katherine Evans proved herself an astute interpreter of the material, creating a fluid, highly amusing and entertaining show with some lovely touches. The choreography and musical arrangement of the musical numbers was nicely done.
The cast showed great focus and dedication, many playing multiple roles. Nancy Longland (Jane) had a commanding stage presence and instinctively drew the eye whenever she was on stage. She was well matched by Matthew Grant who gave Timothy a slightly gawky charm. Ella McCurry (Troppo) made her mark, despite having no lines. And Ellis Bradley was great fun as all of Timothy's uncles.
