CURTAIN CALL REVIEW :‘LIFT’
Music Theatre South
The Stage Door
THE audience are led to believe that everything they see is just a figment of a busker’s imagination. We rarely see the cast together in the lift, although that is what binds the characters together, and the storylines were (on opening night) often difficult to follow as James Doo’s lively quartet occasionally overpowered the vocals. However, the songs are good and the performances even better, with ‘It’s Been A Year’ and ‘That Rainy Day’ two of the stand-out numbers. Imogen Johnson, Hannah Scanlan and Sam Frith, in particular, have the lion’s share of the female action, supported by Elle Watson. Liam Baker (the Busker) dips in and out, although difficult to accept that he is knitting the storylines together. Tim Uffindell catches the eye as the ‘Bright Young Thing’ with Rory Blincow and Ian Watts getting their own chances to shine. Director Adam Myers’s show is only around 75 minutes long but makes an entertaining evening out!
