Outlaw: the story of Robin Hood
The Point Youth Theatre
The Point, Eastleigh
Michael Morpurgo's bold and dynamic re-telling of the Robin Hood legend was given a fittingly bold and dynamic treatment in this new production. This is no frivolous treatment of the well-known figure, but a look behind the legend and ideas of love, justice and hope.
The completely reconfigured auditorium space with its newly created thrust stage space and dramatic set dressing was immensely atmospheric, allowing the audience to feel they were immersed in the forest with the cast. The storytelling was both sophisticated and had attitude. Lighting and music were used to perfect effect. The action moved at a polished pace and there were beautifully choreographed action scenes.
The young cast showed great dedication and commitment to their roles, creating a wonderful ensemble piece. Niall Reeves was impressive as Robin, well matched by Grace Keeping (Marion). Aidan Cooper (John Little) and India Morrison (Friar Tuck) also made their mark.
